Project Overview:
In this case study, we explored the design and development process of the Maple Bank desktop application, specifically focusing on the integration of global transfer and credit score checking features. This project was a collaborative effort among a team of four UX/UI design students, aimed at enhancing the user experience and functionality of Maple Bank’s digital services.
My Role:
my responsibilities included:
- Developing the graphic design elements, color palette, and branding for the application.
- Assisting teammates in preparing low, mid, and high-fidelity wireframes.
- Assisting teammates in Prototyping and conducting user interviews.
- Iterating on designs based on user feedback.

Objectives:
The objective of the Maple Bank desktop application project was to enhance user experience by integrating global money transfers, an automatic currency changer, joint savings accounts, and multi-language support. The goal was to simplify international transfers, enable deposits in any currency for easy money transfers to family abroad, and provide a user-friendly, comprehensive banking service. These features aimed to make Maple Bank’s services more accessible and convenient for users.

Design Process:
Problem Overview:
Challenges that newcomers may encounter when banking in Canada include intricate international transfers, difficulties with currency exchange, restricted account options, communication barriers due to language differences.Our team was tasked to develop a product addressing a critical financial need for potential new customers. Our goal was to provide a digital service for global transactions in different currencies, targeting newcomers to Canada who are looking to set up accounts with Maple Bank.
Research and Analysis:
User Interviews: Conducted interviews with existing Maple Bank customers to understand their needs, pain points, and preferences related to global transfers, currency exchange, and account management.
Competitive Analysis: Examined similar features offered by other banking apps to identify best practices and areas for differentiation.

Surveys: Distributed surveys to gather quantitative data on user preferences and behaviors.


Defining Requirements:
Based on research insights, defined key requirements for the new features:
- Simplified and secure global money transfers.
- Automatic currency conversion to ease transactions.
- Joint savings accounts for shared financial management.
- Multi-language support to cater to a diverse user base.
- Integrated credit score checking for added value.
Features Brainstorm:

User Personas and Scenarios:
Created a persona to represent typical users and developed scenarios to illustrate how different users would interact with the new features, ensuring they meet real-life needs.

Wireframing:
Low-Fidelity Wireframes: Sketched initial wireframes to outline the basic structure and flow of the new features. Focused on core functionalities and user navigation.

Prototyping and Testing:
Mid-Fidelity Prototypes: Created mid-fi prototypes with more detailed interactions and visual elements. Conducted usability tests to identify and fix usability issues.
High-Fidelity Prototypes: Developed high-fi prototypes incorporating refined visuals and branding elements. Ensured all interactive elements were polished and user-friendly.

Iterative Design:
User Feedback: Conducted multiple rounds of user testing with the prototypes to gather feedback and identify areas for improvement.

Final Review and Handoff:
Prepared detailed design documentation and assets for the development team to ensure a smooth handoff and implementation.

Outcome:
The iterative design process resulted in a more user-friendly and comprehensive Maple Bank desktop application. The new features—global money transfers, automatic currency changer, joint savings accounts, and multi-language support—enhanced the overall user experience, meeting modern banking needs and improving customer satisfaction.
